Hello Reader,
I attended my second show this year in Zürich. While the first proved disastrous, resulting in damaged art, the second went okay. It took place indoors. No fierce winds to battle and be afraid of.
Forty-five artists attended the art fair in Zürich. Among all the artists, one photographer stood out. The majority of them practised painting and displayed beautiful artwork at reasonable prices.
The scale of the art fair is not massive with renowned artists. Aspiring artists can show their work to an audience instead.
Besides Aluminium Dibond, I brought Canson Arches Aquarelle Rag Fine Art paper prints. With Dibond, you have to be careful not to drop them. Not much can happen with paper, though. In protective sleeves, they are safe from stains and water. I also had cards and magnetic business cards with me.
Transporting all the stuff can be challenging. The most space takes the cardboard packaging for the large pictures. In each packaging is a print, which is not ideal. Putting all the paper prints in a portfolio case would improve the situation. Thus, I could transport more prints. I don't need cardboard packaging for every print. If I have twenty paper prints with me, ten cardboard packaging would be enough. Selling more than ten large prints is improbable.
Hence, I can showcase additional artwork for people to choose from. I guess I have to buy a portfolio case for my next fair.
The venue is inviting and located not far from the station. Unfortunately, two major Zürich art fairs took place in October. It clarifies the reason for the low attendance at this fair. Abundant art tends to diminish people's interest.
One artist flew in from Berlin. He had to book a hotel and frame his large paintings in Zürich. To get the canvases on the plane, he had to roll them. Framing the artworks in Berlin proved impossible.
The fees for the fair, the flight, the hotel, and the framing cost a lot of money. To top it all, he didn't sell anything. Zero!
Many artists shared a similar fate. Zero sales! One artist got lucky and sold four paintings.
I didn't sell any prints but some cards. Magnetic business cards and brochures gained popularity as well. I should offer more different cards next time.
Despite not selling anything significant, I enjoyed the fair. The people and ambience are welcoming.
I would attend the fair again.
Stay creative,
Ars
