Hello Reader,
Winter is a time of year that I look forward to. Unfortunately, not every winter is equal. Some years can be disappointing, with little snow and warmer temperatures. This year's winter, for example, was rather bad, with not much snow.
One year ago, winter was decent. There was enough snow to appreciate the scenery and take pictures. Yet, it is worth noting that decent doesn't mean fantastic or exceptional. It was average or a bit better than average. But it still fell short of expectations.
In contrast, two years ago, winter was much more extreme. The landscape lay under a thick blanket of snow. Some paths were impossible to navigate, even with snow shoes.
In March, it snowed only on two days, and a lasting snow cover was missing. The other months weren't better either. The general feeling was that winter felt too warm, sometimes more like spring than winter.
Even though the season was disappointing, I still managed to make the best of it. When there was snow, I went out and took pictures.
When it is snowing, you can create fantastic images. Shorten the exposure time, and the snowflakes will freeze. The photo might look like a painting. It is such a great effect. The photo is the RAW file, straight from the camera. So there is no manipulation done on the picture. I only did the usual such as contrast, highlights and shadows.
Snow, in general, is very photogenic. The more snow, the better. Finding interesting compositions is not that hard.
March is over, and April begins. I don't have high hopes that it will snow again. Those images are the last snow pictures of this winter, I guess.
Spring can only get better. I can't wait to experiment with the infrared filter.
Stay creative,
Ars
